Lowbudget Records is proud to present a double-disc release containing six Avant-Garde films from the silent era with modern soundtracks by Doctor X!
“A Gentleman’s Honor” uses the early serial photography of Eadweard Muybridge to illustrate the music of Philip Glass in the very first digital video by Doctor X, produced in 1998 on one of the first Macs to have a 1 Gb internal hard drive!
“Un Chien Andalou” is the classic film from Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali, here presented in HD and slightly tinted.
“Blood Of A Poet” is an early surrealist sound film by Jean Cocteau; we’ve replaced the soundtrack with new music while keeping the original dialog.
“Le Retour A La Raison” and “Emak-Bakia” are two short films by the sometime-Dadaist Man Ray; like all his work, they defy meaning yet inspire repeated viewings.
“The Fall Of The House Of Usher (remix)” is a mash-up of two different silent versions of the famous Poe story. The sepia-tinted images come from Jean Epstein’s 1928 French impressionist film, while the green-tinted images come from an Expressionist short made in the U.S. the same year by James Sibley Watson and Melville Webber.
Please note that “Un Chien Andalou”, “Blood Of A Poet” and “The Fall Of The House Of Usher (remix)” were previously available on DVD from Lowbudget. This blu ray collection represents a major upgrade in picture and sound quality to all three films.
