KING KONG (originally released 1964)

The original box had "RKO GENERAL PRESENTS" above the "King Kong" title, but I couldn't find a good scan of it on the web. This is the Polar Lights reissue.

This is my 2023 build-up of the recent Atlantis Models reissue of the original 1960's Aurora "King Kong";
It includes an add-on resin altar from Red Planet that I got from CultTVman's Hobbyshop:

Here's a shot of the model without the altar:

This and Dr. Jekyll as Mr. Hyde were always my least-favorite monster kits from Aurora. "Kong" suffered from the loss of all the leaves for the trees; the mold went missing after the first run in 1964. It looks a LOT better now that Atlantis has re-molded the leaves, and the addition of the altar from Red Planet really makes the model pop out at you. I finally like this kit!

This is the base without the altar; it already looks more interesting than my old model (see below).

This is the altar from Red Planet. I drilled two holes in the columns and used a thinner string than was provided. I tied two bits of toothpicks to one side and made nooses for the woman's wrists on the other side in order to make it look more like the movie (which I happily watched again to get these details).

I also used some of the extra "glow in the dark" pieces that were in the Kong kit to add details.

Here's my old build from the early 2000s; it's missing the trees' leaves.

This painting may still exist. The glow version of "Kong" used a new painting which copied the original.
